OUTLIE derives its meaning from a statistical term that refers to information that is outside the norm. As applied to the band, OUTLIE is a fancy word that represents our spirit of individuality, non-conformity and insidious rock music. The band was formed for the common good of contributing to the preservation of true music…no glam, no glitz, and no moral objectives. Basically, we like to play power chords and bang our heads.

Outlie is a hard driving melodic rock band with punk rock undertones. The band is fronted by Luke Pabich, guitarist for the long established punk band Good Riddance . Completing the line-up is Jesse Darling (ex- Lonely Kings ) on bass, Sean Sellers (ex- Good Riddance, ex-Downset, Kidney Thieves ) on drums and recent addition, Donovan Cole ( The Last Season ) on lead guitar.

Our debut record, Companions to Devil's and Saints is a dynamic 11-song album designed to stimulate the senses. Hard-hitting songs fueled by political/social satire, life experience and self-reflection provide substance for listeners to sink their ears into.

This history of OUTLIE begins in 1996. At that time Luke was playing in a punk rock band called Good Riddance . Feeling as if his true musical ideas were not being realized, he decided to begin a second band. Little did he know that it would take 8 years for his vision to bear fruit.

For those of you interested in the history, we've attempted to construct a synopsis of the sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes incestuous trials and tribulations that have brought the band to where it is today.

1996 - Tom Kennedy, one of the original Good Riddance bass players, teams up with Luke to start a new band. Luke recruits his brother Derek to play second guitar and Ethan (former drummer of the band IT ). This incarnation was altered after Sean from Good Riddance expressed interest to play drums for the band. Luke and Tom made the decision to incorporate Sean into the band because they felt his style complimented the music more appropriately. Derek left to focus his energies on his other band Time Spent Driving. The band lives on and names itself COERCION .

1997 - Jake Derouchers ( Lonely Kings ) is brought on as the lead singer. Within 3 weeks COERCION records its first demo and plays their first show, but the momentum is short-lived. Due to differing opinions on band time commitments, the band decides to part ways with Jake.

1998 - The band continues writing music and searches for a new singer. This proves difficult, as no one who tries out fits the bill. Unable to find a singer, despair slowly sets in.

1999 - Frustrated with the lack of progress, Tom decides to quit the band and moves to San Diego to go to school. Shortly after, Sean quits Good Riddance and moves to LA, thus putting an end to COERCION. Luke knows he is back to square one and the only way to pursue his ambitions is to do it himself (songwriting, guitar/bass playing and singing…drumming is a stretch). He rents a storage room to make loud noise in and purchases a drum machine, bass guitar, PA system and an 8-track recorder.

The Demo Years (2000-2003)

2000 - After spending about 6 months writing and rehearsing on his own, Luke feels ready to do some recording. One of his best friends, Tony Palermo ( Pulley ) agrees to play drums. The two head into the studio and record the first demo. There is no name for the band at this time. The 2-song demo is simply titled “A Figure of Device.” LA record producer, Steve Kravac ( Porterhouse Records ) takes interest in the music.

2001 - Luke knows that the music and his singing is still in the formative stage and decides to continue to write more music, work on his voice and further define his songwriting.

2002 - At this point, original bass player, Tom Kennedy has expressed interest in the band. Luke, Tony and Tom hit the studio once more, this time under the name COERCION . In the process, Tom and Luke don't see eye-to-eye. The demo is completed with Luke playing bass. At this point Luke seriously contemplates hangin' it up.

2003 - Luke is on the road with Good Riddance and finds out that drummer, Jon Barrysmith and bass player, Jesse Darling (whom Luke did some production work for) had left the band they were in. ( Lonely Kings ). He snatches them up. After some thought, they decide on a new name. Inspired by a conversation with his girlfriend at a local pub, he is drawn to a word that she elaborated on. OUTLIE . The band records a 2-song demo. Jon quits the band and moves down to LA to play with Ignite/California United . With Jesse by his side and an albums worth of material, Luke calls the one person he's wanted to play with all along. O.G. drummer, Sean Sellers, takes him up on the opportunity to rock once more. After six rehearsals, the band records its first full-length record in June of 2003 and mixes it with Ryan Greene in September. At this point, Luke is broke. The band is in need of a record label. After shopping it around, the band decides to work with Steve Kravac/Greg Hetson ( Porterhouse Records )

2004 - In January, Luke re-records some vocal tracks at Steve and Greg's studio. Donovan Cole is brought in as lead guitarist in February. The record will be re-mixed by Ryan Greene in March. The debut record, Companions to Devils and Saints , will be released May 4 th , 2004. More to come.
